Before trying any of the methods below, please make sure your unit's firmware is up to date. In some cases, reinstalling the same firmware over the top can rectify certain issues.

Before sending a unit in: update the firmware (or reinstall the same version over the top), check all cable connections are secure and free of corrosion, re-route the RPM cable away from other sensor wiring, and try a hard reset (hold the two right-hand buttons for 5 seconds on MyChron 6). These steps resolve the large majority of reported faults without needing a repair.
The MyChron 5 is the original GPS lap timer with RPM, one temperature channel and basic expansion support. The 5S adds a faster processor, improved GPS and support for more expansion modules including LCU-One Lambda. The MyChron 6 is the current generation, with a higher-resolution display, 25Hz multi-satellite GPS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou), a 6-axis IMU, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and up to 20 hours of battery life. The 6 2T variant adds a second temperature channel.

go to System Info in the main menu – the model and firmware version are listed there. MyChron 5 and 5S & 6 have a single RPM/temperature input; the 5S V2 and 6 2T support two temperature channels. If you're not sure, send us a photo of the back of the unit and we can identify it for you. There will also be a 2T next to the MyChron Logo on the front case if it is a MyChron 2T
Check that the sensor is plugged into the correct port and fully seated, that the connector pins aren't corroded, and that the channel is configured as Water Temp (not CHT/EGT) . A reading stuck at a fixed value or showing max/min often means a bad connection rather than a faulty sensor.
This is a known quirk, particularly when running Race Studio 3 on a virtualised Windows install on a Mac – device detection over Wi-Fi can be slow, inconsistent, or fail to appear at all depending on the virtualisation setup. If waiting doesn't resolve it, connect via USB instead for a reliable connection.
Connect the unit to a PC running Race Studio 3, open the Firmware Update section, select the correct firmware file for your model, and follow the on-screen prompts. Make sure you have the firmware downloaded to Race Studio 3 before you upload it to your MyChron. Always keep firmware up to date – many display glitches, sensor drop-outs and lap-timing issues are fixed by a firmware update, and reinstalling the same firmware over the top can also resolve one-off glitches.
The Wi-Fi SSID and password can be viewed and reset from the unit's System Settings menu, or from Race Studio 3 while connected via USB. If you're connecting from a virtualised Windows install on a Mac, AiM notes the Wi-Fi device list can be slow to refresh – give it a minute or reconnect via USB instead.
Blind Time is a short window after crossing the start/finish line during which the MyChron ignores further line crossings, to stop very short or looped sections of track from being registered as extra laps. It's configured per-track in Race Studio 3's track settings and normally only needs adjusting on tight or unusual layouts.
This is usually a GPS or firmware issue where the unit briefly loses lock or misreads the start/finish crossing. First, make sure the firmware is fully up to date – AiM has released multiple firmware fixes specifically for lap-timing accuracy. If it still happens after updating, it's worth checking mounting position (a clear view of the sky helps GPS lock) and getting the unit checked.
The MyChron assigns temperature channel labels based on how the channel is configured in Race Studio 3, not automatically from the sensor type. If an EGT probe is plugged in but the channel is still configured for CHT (cylinder head temp), the display will label and scale the reading incorrectly. Go into the channel configuration in Race Studio 3 (or System Settings > Temperature Setup on newer units) and set the correct sensor type for that channel.
You can create a custom track manually in Race Studio 3 by driving a lap with the unit logging, then defining the start/finish line (and any split points) from the recorded GPS trace. Alternatively, email us the track name and location and we can usually source the coordinates for you.
MyChron 5
Yes, the MyChron 5 can be run from an external 12V power source in addition to its internal battery, which is useful for bench-testing or configuring the unit off the kart. Use a stable, regulated supply – an unstable bench supply can cause the same display glitches as electrical interference.

This behaviour on switch-on usually indicates the unit hasn't fully booted or is picking up interference during start-up. Power the unit off fully, disconnect and reconnect the battery/harness, and power back on away from other electrical sources (chargers, phones, power tools). If it keeps happening, update the firmware via Race Studio 3.
Gear calibration lets the MyChron calculate gear position from RPM and road speed. It's done from Race Studio 3: with the kart running through its gears (or using logged data from a session), open the gear calibration wizard for the relevant channel and follow the prompts to record the RPM-to-speed ratio for each gear.
Logo transmission is done through Race Studio 3's configuration screen. Make sure the image meets AiM's required format/resolution, that the unit is connected (USB or Wi-Fi) and recognised by Race Studio 3, and that you're on the latest Race Studio 3 and firmware versions, as older versions can fail silently on logo transfers.
This is almost always electrical interference, usually from the RPM cable running too close to, or wrapped around, the temperature or LCU sensor cables. Re-route the RPM cable away from other sensor wiring, keep it away from the coil/ignition lead where possible, and update the firmware. If it persists after re-routing and a firmware update, the unit will need to be checked.
The LED shift bar lights up progressively as RPM approaches your configured shift point, and can also be set to flash or change colour for over-rev warnings or pit/box alerts depending on configuration. Exact colours and thresholds are set in Race Studio 3 under LED/Shift light configuration for your display layout.
The MyChron 5 has a fixed internal memory that works on a rolling basis once full. Download your sessions to Race Studio 3 regularly (after every session or race day) so nothing important is lost, then clear the memory in the main menu. Consider using a Data Key to offload sessions trackside without needing a laptop present.
The MyChron5/5S/2T range supports the LCU-One Lambda, LCU-One-S Lambda, MyChron data hubs, and the SmartyCam range. If your CAN/EXP cable (or EXP port) is already in use by one module, you can add further modules using a CAN expansion hub rather than daisy-chaining directly.
Confirm Wi-Fi is enabled in System Settings, that the unit has sufficient charge, and that you're within range of the receiving device. If it still won't show as ON, a firmware update or a full power cycle usually resolves it.
This is normal, expected behaviour and not a fault. AiM caps the charge level below 100% by design to protect the internal lithium battery and extend its overall lifespan, similar to battery-health features on phones and laptops.
MyChron 6
The Configuration Wizard runs automatically on first switch-on and walks you through the main parameters. In general: mount the unit with rubber washers above and below the steering wheel bracket, wrap the RPM lead 5–7 turns around the spark plug lead (without over-tightening the harness ties), select your engine type/pulses-per-rev when prompted, We always recommend doing a firmware update before using the unit for the first time.
Go to System Settings > Temperature Setup and change the mode to Manual, then select the correct temperature type for the sensor you've plugged in (EGT, CHT, etc). This step isn't needed for water temperature – the MyChron 6 comes pre-programmed to show water temp and Lambda together automatically.
You need to configure a custom screen: go to System Settings > Display Setup, open the Page tab, and press OK to step through to Custom 1, then enable it. Press the top-left menu button to configure that custom screen and choose Lambda as one of the data fields. From the main dash, press View repeatedly to cycle through to your new Custom Screen (shown with a small "1" in the top-left corner).
To get your MyChron to show Lambda you need to configure a custom screen. Go to System Settings > Display Setup, then on the Page tab, press OK until you get to Custom 1. Go down and select Enable.
Once enabled, press the top left menu button to configure the custom screen. You can now select what data you want where, including Lambda. When finished you can then press the View button on the bottom right 4 times to take you back the main dash. Pushing the View button one more time will take you to your Custom Screen showing a small 1 in the top left and the Lambda value, or how ever you have configured that screen.
Hold down the two right-hand buttons for 5 seconds, then press the ON button once – this performs a hard reset. If the unit still won't turn on, plug it into a power supply (ideally a 65W supply, which charges it fastest) and repeat the reset process while connected to power.
Hold down the two right-hand buttons for 5 seconds to perform a hard reset on the unit. This clears most stuck-boot issues without affecting your saved configurations or logged data.
Check the sensor is plugged into the correct port and the connector is fully seated (including any adaptor cable), and that the channel is configured for water temp rather than CHT/EGT. A loose connector is the most common cause.
Check the RPM lead has enough wraps around the spark plug lead (5–7 turns is typical) and is plugged into the correct RPM port on the MyChron. Confirm the engine type/pulses-per-revolution setting matches your ignition. If RPM still doesn't register, try a different plug lead position or check the lead for damage.
No beacon is needed – MyChron 6 uses a 25Hz multi-satellite GPS receiver (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou) for lap timing, speed, predictive lap time and track position, which is significantly more accurate than earlier MyChron 5-generation GPS. Let the GPS icon turn green (lock acquired) before heading out, and select or confirm the correct track.
This is almost always electrical interference from the RPM cable running too close to, or wrapped around, a temperature sensor cable or an LCU unit. Re-route the RPM cable so it's clear of all other sensor wiring and re-check the readings.
MyChron 6 supports MyChron Expansion modules, the ACC3, SmartyCam 3 Sport, SmartyCam 4 Corsa, and Lambda modules (LCU-One and LCU1S), along with the standard range of temperature, pressure and throttle/brake position sensors, all managed through Race Studio 3. To run the extra brake / throttle Sensors, pressure sensors, steering sensors, rear and front speed sensors you will require the ACC3 module to make these work.
Yes – plug the Data Key into the MyChron's USB port to copy sessions onto it, then plug the Data Key into your PC and open the files in Race Studio 3. This is handy for pulling data trackside without carrying a laptop to the kart.
Yes – MyChron 6 has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11) for wireless configuration and data transfer to Race Studio 3 up to around 50 metres away, plus Bluetooth for heart-rate monitor pairing and data transfer.
LCU1S
Check the etching on the sensor body: genuine sensors are marked with the 'BOSCH' name. A sensor etched only with 'Germany' and no 'BOSCH' wording is not genuine – non-genuine sensors will often work initially but fail after a short lifespan. All Lambda sensors sold by DPE Kart Superstore are genuine Bosch sensors.
The MyChron 5 needs specific firmware (01.32.38) to work with the LCU1S – this is not the same firmware used for general MyChron 5 operation and must be downloaded separately and uploaded via Race Studio 3. Note this firmware is for the MyChron 5 only, not the MyChron 5S.
Use the 4-port expansion hub: plug the hub into the EXP port on your MyChron, connect the LCU1S to the hub, and run the SmartyCam's 5-pin cable from the camera to the hub as well. The LCU1S will supply power to the SmartyCam through this setup.
If your LCU1S stops working there are a few things you can check:
- Check that your MyChron has the latest firmware installed. Please see above for the latest Firmware information. Reinstalling the same Firmware over the top when the LCU1S is connected to the unit can sometimes rectify an issue.
- Make sure there is a secure connection to the terminals on your battery.
- Make sure the RPM cable is clear of the LCU1S, as the interference from the RPM cable can cause problems with the connection.
- Make sure you have the screen configured to show lambda. If you are unsure on how to configure the screen, follow these steps:
1. Go to System Settings > Display Setup
2. On the Page tab, press OK until you reach Custom 1
3. Select Enable
4. After enabling, press the top-left menu button to configure the custom screen
5. Select the data you want to display (e.g., Lambda, temperature, etc.)
6. Press the View button (bottom right) four times to return to the main dash
7. Pressing View one more time will take you to your Custom Screen — it will show a small '1' in the top left corner along with your configured data
If you have tried everything above and it is still not giving you a reading, or the reading doesn’t move while the kart is running, it will most likely be a faulty sensor. When purchasing a new sensor, make sure you buy a genuine Bosch product. If the sensor is etched with 'Germany' and no 'BOSCH' wording it is not genuine. They will work initially, however they have a very short lifespan and will fail quickly. All sensors sold by DPE are genuine Bosch sensors.

The 2 port powered hub does not deliver enough power to start / warm up the sensor on the LCU1S.
LCU1S will draw between 750Ma up to 2 A when the sensor is cold. LCU1S requires a direct power source to a 12v battery.
When using both a LCU1S and a SmartyCam we recommend using the 4 Port Expansion hub.
Plug the 4 port expansion hub into the EXP port on your MyChron > LCU1S to the hub > smarty cam 5 pin cable from the camera to the hub.
The Power from your LCU1S will power the SmartyCam
ACC3
The ACC3 does require power. This means you will need to plug this into a 2 port powered hub.
If you are also using an LCU1S we recommend using the 4 port hub in lieu of the 2 port hub as the LCU1S will supply power to the ACC3.
Once you have plugged the ACC3 into the MyChron (most commonly through a 2 port or 4 port hub), and plugged in your required sensors. you will need to configure the unit on Race Studio 3. Click Here for the ACC3 User Manual. Reference pages 6 - 11 for how to configure the unit on RS3.
Note: If you are using an LCU1S This will supply power to the ACC3.
The ACC3 converts analog sensor data into digital data for your MyChron. You only need one if you want to log throttle position, steering angle, speed, or tyre temperature sensors – it's not required for the standard RPM/temperature/Lambda inputs.
